13 Easy ways to spoil Dad on Father’s Day
Published on Wed Aug 29 2018 in Lifestyle
Father’s Day is right around the corner! If you’re still unsure what to give your dad this year, don’t worry. Making him feel special may be easier than you think. Here are 13 ideas for spoiling your dad on Father’s Day, or anytime of the year.
- Play some sport
When was the last time you and Dad played a bit catch? Head to the park for a friendly game of touch, cricket or soccer. Invite the entire family for a backyard sport day in dad’s honour! - Go to a game
Dad may not be sporty himself, but he might enjoy taking in a live game. Take him to see his favourite team (now or during the season) so he can cheer them on in person. If you can, splurge on better seats to make the day extra special. - Cook his favourite meal
The way to many dad’s hearts is through their stomachs. Show Dad how much you care by whipping up his favourite meal or dessert. If you’re not great in the kitchen, ask Mum for a bit of help or book a table at Dad’s favourite restaurant. - Book a shave and haircut
Dad might not appreciate a spa day quite like Mum, but that doesn’t mean you can’t pamper him! Book an appointment at a barbershop that offers special services like a hot towel shave or beard shaping. Dad can try something new whilst picking up a few grooming tips. - Ask him to teach you something new
Some dads love to pass skills on to their children or grandchildren. Why not ask yours to give you a lesson in home repair, car maintenance, cooking or whatever else he’s great at! Dad will be chuffed to share his expertise, and you can both spend quality time together. - Start a project together
Once you’ve learned a thing or two from your dad, why not work on a bigger project together? You could build a piece of furniture, restore a classic car or start a backyard vegetable garden. - Look at the stars
Does you dad fancy himself an amateur astronomer? Plan a night of stargazing with him and the family. There are plenty of stars, planets and satellites that can be seen with the naked eye or a pair of binoculars. Do a bit of online research, and then wait for the sun to go down! - Take him to a movie
A day at the cinema can be a fun way to bond with Dad. Let him pick the movie, and spring for some popcorn and lollies. Afterwards, you can grab a coffee and chat about the film. - Subscribe to his favourite magazine
A subscription to one of Dad’s favourite magazines is the gift that keeps on giving all year round. Give him something special to look forward to each month—whether it’s reading about sport, cars, fishing or travel. You could also get him a yearly subscription to the local newspaper, if that’s more his speed. - Create a memory box
Your family may have a lifetime of treasured memories that involve your dad. Now might be a great time to reminisce. Create a memory box full of photos and keepsakes from weddings, holidays and your everyday lives that highlight just how important Dad is to you! - Write him a letter
Letter writing may seem like a thing of the past, but it’s a tradition worth reviving for special occasions! Write Dad a heartfelt letter to express your love for him. Thank him for the important lessons he’s taught you throughout your life and let him know just how much you care. - Plan a weekend away
A holiday with Dad could be a fun way to strengthen your relationship. Visit his favourite location or pick a place he’s never seen before. Plan a fishing trip, wine weekend or bicycle tour for a bit of extra fun! - Give him a call
Sometimes the simplest gestures can have the most meaning. Pick up the phone and call you Dad this Father’s Day—or any time of the year! Even just a quick ten-minute conversation could brighten his day.
